Famous Peking Opera – Mu Guiying Takes Command

In the Northern Song Dynasty (A.D.960 - 1127) of China, there were a famous general named Yang Jiye. He and his seven sons guarded the border, and they made illustrious military exploits in the frontier defense wars. So that the people paid a tribute to them forever, lots of inspiring story about the generals of Yang Family came down.

The wife of Yang Jiye's grandson called Mu Guiying (A.D.996 - 1063) had made eminent war exploits for the Song. But then, she was framed by the treacherous official of court. She abdicated and went to country for farming with grandmother-in-law She Taijun (A.D.934 - 1010) who was also a famous general in the Northern Song Dynasty. They were buried alive with the big family for 20 years.

When the seignior of Kingdom Xixia (A.D.960 - 1227) abruptly rioted one day, there was no one that could be sent to fight back in the North Song. So the Court wanted to call for Mu Guiying back. In the first instance, Mu Guiying refused to come, because the Court treated the Yang family with coldhearted attitude when the treacherous official of court persecuted them. After grandmother-in-law She Taijun reasoned her, she abandoned personal spite, and left for the battlefield with her husband Yang Zongbao, her son Yang Wenguang and her daughter Yang Jinhua finally.
